AjaxLife 0.3.0 release notes

Release

AjaxLife 0.3.0 is up now. Yay!

Here are some release notes:

  • Inventory window is fifty pixels wider by default
  • Inventory has a context menu
  • Inventory items can be renamed (but folders can’t)
  • Inventory folders and items can be moved to trash and/or purged
  • The trash can be emptied
  • Folders can be created
  • Properties window for inventory items (read-only for now)
  • “Copy UUID” option on inventory items (if you have full permissions) - copies directly to clipboard in IE, opens a dialog with the UUID pre-selected in everything else.
  • Inventory items show their permissions on mouseover
  • Addition of keyboard shortcuts (same as those used in SL):
    • Ctrl-Q logs you out
    • Ctrl-T opens the IM window
    • Ctrl-I opens inventory
    • Ctrl-H opens the chat window
    • Ctrl-M opens the map
    • Ctrl-Shift-1 opens the stats window
    • Ctrl and Command/Apple are interchangeable under Safari
  • When used in Fluid with Growl installed, Growl notifications are shown for certain events
  • Bugfix: friend lists will no longer display a list of nulls or blanks
  • Bugfix: The map window’s “Focus on target” button now actually focuses the target, not your position as of inital login

You can see some screenshots of the new inventory stuff in my earlier post.

I hope you like it. :D

Is the old one still running on an old address at all? I can’t get the new one to work on my work computer, think I need to install flash but I don’t have adminstrative consent to do so! If not, that means i actually gotta do work when im here! *gasps*
Please please pleaseee say there is still a way for me to get on with the old ajax?

  3. Katharine Berry Says:
    March 9th, 2008 at 10:48 am

That’s odd - it shouldn’t be breaking without flash. I’ll look into it.

What web browser are you using? IE6?

  4. Jen Says:
    March 9th, 2008 at 10:53 am

I’m not sure, how can I check that? I may be wrong about the flash thing, it just doesn’t load properly. At the bottom of the screen, where it should say “first name” “second name” “password” etc it says (loading) then if I still try and log in, the page changes so the login details are at the top but theres no bar loading it up, and it says ‘done’ at the bottom of the screen. Any ideas? Thanks for your help hon x

Found the problem, I left a comma on line 1,880. It should be fixed in about five or ten minutes.

  6. Katharine Berry Says:
    March 9th, 2008 at 11:14 am

There we go. It should work if you reload the page now.

  7. Jen Says:

Aw Katherine, you are a bloody legend!!! When it’s my payday you are getting a hefty donation from me ;) you’re a star! thank you!! xx

Is there anyway you connect into openlifegrid as well as osgrid?

    its loginuri is -loginuri http://logingrid.net:8002/

  9. Katharine Berry Says:
    March 10th, 2008 at 1:27 pm

If I can get it to connect without crashing the region, I’ll add it in the next release. I was going to do so this time, but forgot to. Sorry!

(As a hint: If you want things done, the issue tracker is a good place to point this out.)

Great work, Katherine! I had thought of making an ajax-viewer about a year back, but as always the real world step in when I think I have enough free time to persue the idea. I’m glad someone took the lead!

Have you considered group access/group chat yet in the latest version?

  12. digitalmouse Gears (in SL) Says:
    March 11th, 2008 at 2:42 pm

Hmm… not sure if it’s related to AjaxLife, or to SecondLife. Just tried what I thought was your latest version at ajaxlife.net (currently pointing to http://67.202.54.67/) and it logs in ok, and shows me all the windows, BUT when I try to chat with someone I get no reply (and I’m certain they are not away), *and* I see a re-occuring bubble appear at the top saying ‘Network reconnecting’ - keeps popping up every 20 seconds or so.

  13. Katharine Berry Says:
    March 11th, 2008 at 7:52 pm

That basically means the server died on you. Or your internet connection.

Although displaying “Network.Connecting” is a language file error that should be corrected.

Wanted to pop in and tell you that on Monday, our office finally moved forward and we’re now running IE7.

The new version of Ajaxlife is a thing of beauty and I just wanted to weep with joy as I opened an inventory folder and was able to give a friend information she needed from a notecard!

    You’re awesome!

Porque eu ja tentei muitas vezes e não consegui…Por favor! Ajuda!

    Tks

  17. Katharine Berry Says:

PO, yes - that is, in fact, the idea. Visit http://ajaxlife.net to see/use/play with it.

@ "Eu preciso de ajudo no AjaLife"

Just a little help to the brazilian fellow that ask some questions.

  24. Katharine Berry Says:

Should be working now.. hopefully. :p

  25. Steve Mahfouz Says:

fwiw, the beta of Internet Explorer 8.0 is able to login but then the screen goes white and you are unable to use search. You also have to enable the Emulate IE7 mode to login at all.

  26. Katharine Berry Says:
    March 20th, 2008 at 11:24 pm

That’d be because IE8 breaks the web. ;)
I’ll see if I can work out why.

  28. KJ Says:
    March 28th, 2008 at 5:52 am

Okies… Gruop Chat finally comes up, but it’s bugging. It comes up as the name of the user who you first received a message from - if this is someone you are chatting with in IM, then it merges with it. Also, I don’t think you can reply to group messages.. I’ve sent a few questions in one and didn’t get any responses - conversation just flowing like they were never asked.

  29. Obvious Schism Says:
    March 28th, 2008 at 9:35 am

That’s ok - whenever I respond to a group chat message in the full SL client I never get a reply anyway :S

  30. Katharine Berry Says:
    March 28th, 2008 at 10:41 am

KJ, that’s actually a bug in AjaxLife 0.3.1, which was deployed without fanfare (although it’s tagged in the code.)

I’ll fix it as soon as possible.

  31. Red Rivera Says:

    hey there

I still get the same problem as Jen. At the bottom of the screen, where it should say “first name” “second name” “password” etc it says (loading. Even if I key in my name and password, nothing happens.

Can you try to look into it?? Thanks..Red

  32. Katharine Berry Says:
    April 1st, 2008 at 12:28 am

This suggests that you’re using a browser that chokes on the scripts, or that a firewall is blocking the scripts (e.g. at my school one of the scripts gets blocked due to excessive use of responseXML and similar.)

What browser are you using, and can you access http://static.ajaxlife.net/AjaxLife.All.js and http://static.ajaxlife.net/AjaxLife.Libs.js?

  33. sparkle lyyton Says:
    April 1st, 2008 at 1:20 pm

Hi Katherine when i try and run either of these scripts I get an erorr
    Line 1
    Char 1
    Error Invalid Charecter
    Code 800A03F6
    Source Microsoft JS compilation

The funny thing is i used to be able to run ajaxlife no problems this just tsrated one day.

I hope this helps solve the problem

  34. Katharine Berry Says:
    April 1st, 2008 at 3:38 pm

You’re not meant to be able to run them - just download them without it being blocked by a firewall.

  35. KJ Says:
    April 2nd, 2008 at 12:17 am

*hugs you tight* What you’ve done is an amazing thing, and at such a young age. Do you plan a career in the IT industry? Surely you’d work a name up for yourself were that the case.

  36. KJ Says:
    April 2nd, 2008 at 4:38 am

okies, that’s strange… I didn’t get to catch much of it as I only noticed as they were going away.. by I just got two error messages.. one of them concerning E.YourPosition ~ or something like that..

  37. sparkle lyyton Says:
    April 2nd, 2008 at 1:49 pm

Hi Katherine Well it looks like I can down load the files. I still get the perpetual loading error and can’t run Ajax Life so must be some thing with the way my PC is now. I used to be able to Run Ajax life on it it just stopped one day with this error. I have had the same error with other pcs in places like airports etc. I hope you can help me get ajax life back I hate moveable life with a passion. Thanks sparkle

  38. Katharine Berry Says:
    April 2nd, 2008 at 2:09 pm

At a guess, I’ve done something to upset Microsoft JScript. It shouldn’t be suffering from compile errors… hmm. I shall investigate this.

  39. sparkle lyyton Says:
    April 4th, 2008 at 7:03 am

Hi Katherine thanks for your help I dont knowif this is useful
On my laptop it will not run ajaxlife on any network so its not a firewall problem with the provider and I dont think on my laptop

I have had the same ajaxlife not loading problem with PCs in public places e.g. airports

I have managed to gett ajax life to run in internet cafes.

So it looks like some computors do not like ajax life somehow

    Thanks for your help
P.S. Save me from being doomed to moveable life lol

  41. Minx Arashi Says:

    xoxoxo

  42. Katharine Berry Says:
    April 4th, 2008 at 6:07 pm

Arg. This is what happens when the load balancer enters the state of telling itself it’s doing something when it actually isn’t.

    It’s fixed now. :D

hi katherine Ajax life does not work on my lap top using Internet Explorer version 6.0.2900
I hope this helps get to the bottom of the problem thanks sparkle

  44. Barbara Reiter Says:
    April 7th, 2008 at 8:30 am

Nice thing, really, would love if i would be able to log in.

Unfortunalely i cant login from my Mac (OS X 10.4.12) neither over Safari 3.1 nor Camino 1.5.5

Maybe it has to do with m password whos damn long and includes special characters like “öé” etc…

  45. Katharine Berry Says:
    April 7th, 2008 at 11:01 am

What error do you get? If it’s “Timed out,” LL’s login server didn’t respond. Otherwise it’s some sort of odd bug that I didn’t know about.

  46. digitalmouse Gears (in SL) Says:
    April 7th, 2008 at 11:11 am

Sparkle, as a note of advice, when you say ‘does not work’ you should provide more information. What ‘does not work’ exactly? Can you log in? Do parts of the interface have a strange behavior or do not open? Do you see any messages appear? You need to tell Katherine what you are doing, and what results you get (or not get).

‘Does not work’ is too vague to be of much help!

Barbara, I use Mac OS X (10.5.1) and Safari 3.0.4 - AjaxLife does not appear to work for me either - just shows the ‘Logging in’ window, followed by a ‘time out’ window.

It is possible that Safari’s AJAX support is not up to Katharine’s standards. :) I would suggest using Firefox 2 (2.0.0.13 atleast) - it works very well with AjaxLife on my MacBook.

  47. Katharine Berry Says:
    April 7th, 2008 at 11:43 am

Actually, it’s developed in Safari, which is the only browser which actually does what I might like it to do fast enough. Which is slightly odd, given its not exactly famous for its JavaScript performance (Actually, I develop it on WebKit nightlies, but…)

And the “Timed out.” message is from the AjaxLife server, commenting on Linden Lab’s login server not working.

  48. sparkle lyyton Says:
    April 8th, 2008 at 7:20 am

    Hi digital mouse
If you scroll up to my other posts you will see I have described the problem and said it is the same as others are having. AJAX life loads the picture but the bottom boxes for sign on etc just say loading perpetually and Ajaxlife wont work.

    This was Kateherines question

“And what web browser are you using when it does or does not work?”

So I replied. It seems that my lap top has just stopped loading ajax life it u sed to and i was hoping katherine might help find the cause seeing s I hate moveable life.

I hope kateherine can help get it fixed its either a chnage that my laptop doesnt like or a setting that needs adjusting but I have tried to chnage things without much suceess

  49. Katharine Berry Says:
    April 8th, 2008 at 3:31 pm

Well, I’m lost. I am completely failing to reproduce this issue using IE 6.0.2900.

However, the error it failed with when you tried running the script directly implies that there’s some error that’s preventing it even reading the script…

Please can you tell me what error it produces? IE should display a warning triangle in the bottom-left corner. Click it and copy all the error messages (if there’s more than one, you can click “Previous” and “Next” to see them.)

It’s running perfectly everywhere I can test it.

  50. sparkle lyyton Says:
    April 10th, 2008 at 1:31 pm

Ah here we go i see the triangle and when i click it i see the following

    Line 2
    Char 1
    Error Invalid Character
    Code 0
    URL http://75.101.197.28/ajaxlife.kat

    LIne 45
    Char 4
    Error ‘AjaxLife’ is undefined
    Code 0
    URL http://75.101.197.28/ajaxlife.kat

There are the two errors hooray now I hope you cann help me get it fixed and banish moveable life lol Thanks in advance sparkle

  52. Katharine Berry Says:
    April 19th, 2008 at 1:33 am

    Hi katharine,

I tried again and cleared my cache as well just in case i was bringing a stored copy but still get the same errors on Line 2 and Line 45 as i described above :(
